Big birds need a solid base — here’s how to give it one.

1. Pick a spacious, visible location — open lawn, large garden bed, or a boundary fence with presence.
2. Place the stake deep into firm soil — press down first to check depth, then use a mallet or hammer to drive the spike fully into the ground.
3. Compact the soil around the base using your foot or the blunt side of the hammer to eliminate movement.
4. For windy or exposed areas, reinforce with two garden stakes behind the piece, hidden from view, or wedge into landscaping features like sleepers or rocks.
5. If installing on a hard surface, cut a narrow groove into timber or wedge between heavy objects that provide both support and stability.

Top Tip: The Emu is happiest standing proud — give it a spot where the light changes through the day and the shadows do the rest.

How big is this Emu, really?
It’s our largest silhouette — 55cm tall and 41cm wide, designed to make an impression without dominating your space.

Can it handle strong winds?
Yes — but placement matters. For exposed areas, we recommend driving the stake into compacted soil, then reinforcing with hidden garden stakes or bracing against solid features like rocks or sleepers.

Can I install it on a deck or paved area?
You can — just cut a narrow groove into timber or wedge it firmly between two heavy surfaces. It doesn’t need to go in deep, but it does need to be secure.

Does it come in your standard packaging?
No — due to its size, the Emu is wrapped securely in bubble wrap instead of our standard A4 box.

Do Emus really grow that tall in real life?
They do — adult emus can stand up to 1.9 metres tall. Ours isn’t life-sized, but it holds the same sense of presence in your space.

At first, you’ll notice bright orange spots (we call this the teenage phase). Soon enough, the whole bird will turn a bold orange, slowly shifting into deep burnt umber. Eventually, it settles into a moody charcoal that feels like it’s always belonged.
