Description

Two familiar faces, one shared perch. Our Pair of Kookaburras brings a quiet moment of togetherness to a timber fence or verandah post. A thoughtful gift for a favourite pair.

18 cm high × 32 cm wide · Approx. 400 g · 3 mm Corten steel · Made in Australia.

Good company. One shared branch.

One looks across the branch towards the other. It’s a simple scene, with two sturdy beaks, patterned wings and a sprig of leaves joining the composition.

The pair is cut as one connected steel silhouette, so they arrive together and share a single perch. Choose a spot with sky or open garden behind, where the cut detail can show.

Material and weathering

Corten is weathering steel. Outdoors, its surface develops a rust-coloured patina. Exposure, rain and drying affect the colour and the rate of change, so each bird weathers in its own way.

Leave it unpainted to enjoy the changing finish. Choose a spot where rust run-off won’t mark pale paving, walls or other surfaces.

Installation

Choose suitable solid timber, such as a sturdy fence post or timber planter. Position the integrated mounting spike against the wood and tap it in gently with a hammer until secure. Avoid striking the bird itself. Hammer not included.

Choose a spot you have permission to use. Keep the pointed spike out of children’s reach. Give the silhouette a clear background so its cut detail can show.

Gifting

For an anniversary, a new home or the two people who always make room at the table. Two kookaburras sharing a branch make a personal gesture without needing a long speech.

Each Metalbird is crafted from Corten® Steel, a premium, weathering steel made to last.

When it meets the elements, it doesn’t rust like your old BBQ. It transforms.

That change you’re seeing? That’s patina. A tough, protective outer layer that seals the steel, adds character, and preserves your bird for decades.

This isn’t paint. It’s nature’s way of ageing gracefully.

The Patina Process:

At first, you’ll notice bright orange spots (we call this the teenage phase). Soon enough, the whole bird will turn a bold orange, slowly shifting into deep burnt umber. Eventually, it settles into a moody charcoal that feels like it’s always belonged.

The Result? A piece of industrial art with a heartbeat. No peeling, no fading, just a bird that gets better with age.

what’s the word on the bird?
