Description

Delicate, fast, and sweet as nectar.

Often mistaken for a hummingbird, the Eastern Spinebill is our very own Aussie nectar lover — always darting between blooms with that distinctive curved beak and flash of cinnamon plumage.

This silhouette captures that exact moment: mid-flight, mid-meal, full of life. It’s our most dynamic design yet — a tribute to Australia’s small but mighty pollinators.

Inspired by real movement... 24cm high × 24cm wide, approx. 300g
Perfect for flower-lovers... best placed near blooms or natives
Quick delivery... same-day dispatch before 12pm weekdays
Australian made... crafted in a local, family-run factory
Durable design... 3mm Corten® steel, designed to age beautifully
Easy to install... just tap it gently into timber or soil

Whether gifting or growing your own backyard habitat, this piece adds a quiet, fluttering magic.

Plant it where the flowers bloom.

1. Choose a garden spot with colour — near grevillea or bottlebrush is perfect.
2. Hold the silhouette mid-air — it’s meant to feel like flight.
3. Tap the stake in gently at a downward angle with a mallet.
4. Check the angle — make sure the beak is pointed toward a bloom.
5. Smile — you’ve caught a moment of movement, frozen in steel.

Top Tip: If you grow natives for pollinators, this bird is the cherry on top.

Is this bird related to the hummingbird?
No — not genetically, but behaviourally they’re similar. The Spinebill fills a similar ecological role here in Australia.

Is the design really mid-flight?
Yes — this is our only bird captured mid-air. It’s dynamic, light, and beautifully balanced.

Will it weather well near the garden?
Absolutely. It’s made from 3mm Corten® steel that develops a protective patina.

What makes it a good gift?
It’s sweet, unique, and fits right into any flower bed or gift box.

Do they really eat while flying?
They do — Eastern Spinebills hover like hummingbirds while feeding on nectar.

Each Metalbird is crafted from Corten® Steel, a premium, weathering steel made to last.

When it meets the elements, it doesn’t rust like your old BBQ. It transforms.

That change you’re seeing? That’s patina. A tough, protective outer layer that seals the steel, adds character, and preserves your bird for decades.

This isn’t paint. It’s nature’s way of ageing gracefully.

The Patina Process:

At first, you’ll notice bright orange spots (we call this the teenage phase). Soon enough, the whole bird will turn a bold orange, slowly shifting into deep burnt umber. Eventually, it settles into a moody charcoal that feels like it’s always belonged.

The Result? A piece of industrial art with a heartbeat. No peeling, no fading, just a bird that gets better with age.
