Magpie
A magpie on the fence feels right at home. This steel version keeps that upright stance and familiar outline, ready for a permanent perch outside your back door.
20 cm high × 29 cm wide · Approx. 300 g · 3 mm Corten steel · Made in Australia.
Your garden’s familiar neighbour.
Some birds become part of the daily routine. A shape on the fence, a head turned towards you, a pause while you’re out in the garden.
Our Magpie captures that moment on a simple steel branch. The cut-out markings keep the silhouette recognisable, with no paint needed. Place it where you’ll spot it over your morning cuppa.
Material and weathering
Corten is weathering steel. Outdoors, its surface develops a rust-coloured patina. Exposure, rain and drying affect the colour and the rate of change, so each bird weathers in its own way.
Leave it unpainted to enjoy the changing finish. Choose a spot where rust run-off won’t mark pale paving, walls or other surfaces.
Installation
Choose suitable solid timber, such as a sturdy fence post or timber planter. Position the integrated mounting spike against the wood and tap it in gently with a hammer until secure. Avoid striking the bird itself. Hammer not included.
Choose a spot you have permission to use. Keep the pointed spike out of children’s reach. Give the silhouette a clear background so its cut detail can show.
Gifting

Each Metalbird is crafted from Corten® Steel, a premium, weathering steel made to last.
When it meets the elements, it doesn’t rust like your old BBQ. It transforms.
That change you’re seeing? That’s patina. A tough, protective outer layer that seals the steel, adds character, and preserves your bird for decades.
This isn’t paint. It’s nature’s way of ageing gracefully.
The Patina Process:
At first, you’ll notice bright orange spots (we call this the teenage phase). Soon enough, the whole bird will turn a bold orange, slowly shifting into deep burnt umber. Eventually, it settles into a moody charcoal that feels like it’s always belonged.
The Result? A piece of industrial art with a heartbeat. No peeling, no fading, just a bird that gets better with age.
