Kookaburra
That big beak. That unmistakable profile. Give the Kookaburra a permanent perch by the verandah, where you can enjoy the character without the early wake-up call.
21 cm high × 30 cm wide · Approx. 300 g · 3 mm Corten steel · Made in Australia.
A familiar face for your favourite perch.
A kookaburra’s laugh can make a place feel like home. This silhouette keeps another familiar detail: the sturdy beak and upright pose of a bird taking in the view.
Cut in steel in Victoria, it brings that presence to a timber post or fence. Put it where the morning light catches the cut detail, or give it to someone who misses the sound of the bush.
Material and weathering
Corten is weathering steel. Outdoors, its surface develops a rust-coloured patina. Exposure, rain and drying affect the colour and the rate of change, so each bird weathers in its own way.
Leave it unpainted to enjoy the changing finish. Choose a spot where rust run-off won’t mark pale paving, walls or other surfaces.
Installation
Choose suitable solid timber, such as a sturdy fence post or timber planter. Position the integrated mounting spike against the wood and tap it in gently with a hammer until secure. Avoid striking the bird itself. Hammer not included.
Choose a spot you have permission to use. Keep the pointed spike out of children’s reach. Give the silhouette a clear background so its cut detail can show.
Gifting
For the person who knows a kookaburra’s laugh before they see the bird. A little piece of a familiar place, ready to give to a gardener, bird lover or someone settling into a new home.

AS SEEN IN
Each Metalbird is crafted from Corten® Steel, a premium, weathering steel made to last.
When it meets the elements, it doesn’t rust like your old BBQ. It transforms.
That change you’re seeing? That’s patina. A tough, protective outer layer that seals the steel, adds character, and preserves your bird for decades.
This isn’t paint. It’s nature’s way of ageing gracefully.
The Patina Process:
At first, you’ll notice bright orange spots (we call this the teenage phase). Soon enough, the whole bird will turn a bold orange, slowly shifting into deep burnt umber. Eventually, it settles into a moody charcoal that feels like it’s always belonged.
The Result? A piece of industrial art with a heartbeat. No peeling, no fading, just a bird that gets better with age.
